took up the torchってどんな意味になるのでしょうか?took up the torch＝たいまつを高く掲げるという意味なんでしょうが、前後の文章から「仕事を引き継ぐ」みたいなニュアンスだと想像できます。ある職人が代々続いたお店を引き継いだといった文章の中で出てきた言葉なのですが、「took up the torch」の訳としてどんな訳が相応しいのでしょうか?

イタリア人との仕事が相変わらずスムーズに行きません。以下の文の英訳をお願いいたしますm(_ _)m「何故出来ない約束ばかりするのですか？確かに私はこの仕事に関してはまだプロフェッショナルではないですが商品を楽しみにしている我社のお客様に納得いただけるような商品を届けたいという気持ちが強いだけです。もし貴方が（職人として）プロフェッショナルだというなら自分で言ったこと位は実行してください。」
